Information from the Texas Comptroller indicates that City of Tyler sales tax revenues have decreased 9.46 percent as compared to this period in 2008. This is up from a 13.12 percent drop reported in September.
Tyler ended the 2008-2009 fiscal year on Sept. 30 with a 3.36 percent decline in sales tax revenue from fiscal year 2007-2008.
The reported revenue of $2,442,443.20 is comprised of $1,628,295.47 general sales tax revenue and $814,147.73 half-cent sales tax revenue. The figures represent receipts from August collections, as there is a two month period before revenue is reported.
“I am disappointed to see sales tax collections still low; but this was anticipated,” said City Manager Mark McDaniel. “The good news is that the City was very conservative when we prepared our 2009-2010 budget; we projected that it could take several months for sales tax collections to rally. The cuts that we made have kept us in a positive position and are now clearly paying off.”
