Gallery Main Street will open its second fine art show, “Shades of East Texas,” with a reception Saturday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at 110 W. Erwin. The juried show will feature the work of artists from East Texas and the surrounding area. Formats range from watercolor to acrylic to sculpture.
“Artists whose work was selected for the show will be recognized at the reception,” said Main Street Director Beverly Abell. “The opening reception is open to the public and is a great chance to meet the artists whose work is being displayed and offered for sale.”
Gallery Main Street, open since late August 2009, is one of the downtown arts programs unveiled since the city’s adoption of the Tyler 21 master plan, which called for the arts to become a major factor in downtown revitalization.
The gallery shares space with the city’s Main Street department and its private-sector partner, the non-profit Heart of Tyler, Inc.
“We envision this facility as a major contributor to the quality of life in downtown and the community as a whole,” Abell said, adding that she hopes the gallery space will be eventually used for art instruction, culinary demonstrations and classes, lectures, poetry events, independent film and music programs and other arts projects.
“Shades of East Texas” will be on display at the gallery from Saturday through Dec. 1. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays. The gallery is closed on all City of Tyler holidays.
Prospectus for the gallery’s next show, “Four Seasons,” is posted on the downtown arts website, www.downtowntylerarts.com. Entry deadline for the jury process is Mon., Nov. 30.
