City enhances E services

by Susan Guthrie - November 10, 2009

The City of Tyler has rolled out several enhancements to their E services as part of the fiscal year 2009/2010 budget, including the cessation of the processing fee for online payments and the addition of an online request for water, sanitary sewer and solid waste service.

When the ability to pay City utility bills and Municipal Court tickets online was originally made available on the City’s webpage, www.cityoftyler.org, customers were assessed a processing fee because the City, in turn, was charged to process the credit card payment.  Effective Oct. 1, this $2 fee per transaction has been eliminated.

“To enhance our efficiency, we are trying to encourage more customers to use our online services,” said Water Business Office Manager Joan Roberson.  “Eliminating this fee will make it more attractive to our customers to make their monthly payment online which will free our representatives to assist customers who need personal service.”

To pay utility bills online, customers can select the “I want to” drop down menu and then click on “pay my water bill”.  Please have a current statement on hand.  To pay a traffic ticket, follow the same procedure except select “pay a traffic ticket”.

In addition to the elimination of the processing fee, the ability to request and change service has  been added to the web site.  Customers can click on the “I want to” drop down menu and complete a service request form online versus calling the department.  They may request a connection, disconnection or a transfer.

The Water Business Office phone system has also been updated to allow customers to access account information as well as pay their current phone bill 24 hours a day with just the touch of a button.

“We are continually looking for ways to make our services more accessible for our customers,” said Roberson.  “In the coming months additional service enhancements will be launched.”
