Rose Garden receives donation

by Susan Guthrie - June 06, 2008

The City of Tyler Municipal Rose Garden recently unveiled a new teakwood bench and landscaped area donated by the family of Eddie Claiborn in his memory.

BenchMr. Claiborn was a frequent visitor to the Rose Garden prior to his death in September 2007.  His family, Donna Browning and Linda Holt, worked closely with Rose Garden staff to select a location for the bench and to design the surrounding landscaping, in memory of their family member.

“It was really important to us to do something to honor our brother,” said Mrs. Browning.  “He loved the Rose Garden and would really appreciate the new bench and landscaping.”

The total cost for the bench and landscaping was over $4,000 of which $1,550 was kindly donated by the family.  The bench is located on the south area of the Garden near the Camellia Garden.

“We were happy to do something at the Rose Garden that other visitors could enjoy,” said Browning.  “We selected the perfect vantage spot for the bench so that most of the Garden is visible.”
