by Susan Guthrie - July 08, 2008

Press release update:  July 8, 2008

Tyler Pounds Regional Airport has received notification that due to changes in flight schedules, American Airlines will implement the changes outlined in the release below effective Sept. 3, 2008.  The three daily flights are scheduled to depart from Tyler at 7 a.m., 11:25 a.m., and 4:35 p.m.  Continental Connection will continue to offer six departures daily from Tyler.

“The planes that will be servicing Tyler are new and more comfortable than those utilized currently,” said Davis Dickson, airport manager.  “With the greater capacity on these planes, the net number of seats available should remain stable.”

Tyler Pounds Airport to maintain seating capacity with fewer departures

The City of Tyler announced today that they had received notification from American Eagle that in response to rising fuel costs, the number of daily departures from Tyler Pounds Regional Airport will be decreased.

American Eagle currently has five daily departures from the Airport.  These flights have a seating capacity of 34 passengers on the turbo prop planes.  Once implemented, the new schedule will include three daily departures on newer, regional jets that have a greater seating capacity.   The result will be a stable seating capacity, or potentially greater seating capacity with fewer flights.

“With rising fuel costs, it is strategically beneficial for American Eagle to consolidate their flight schedule to reduce costs,” said Davis Dickson, Tyler Pounds Regional Airport manager.  “We are pleased that the number of seats available to Tyler traveler will remain the same or possibly grow.”

Continental Connection also provides service at Tyler Pounds and will continue to offer six weekday departures and three daily weekend departures.

The Tyler Pounds Regional Airport was recently named Airport of the Year by the Federal Aviation Administration.  It serves 150,000 travelers per year.  To learn more about Tyler Pounds Regional Airport’s Master Plan, please visit their website at www.cityoftyler.org.
