The City of Tyler was authorized on April 11, 1846, and was incorporated on January 29, 1850. It is the economic hub in northeast Texas. Through conservative financial planning, we provide top-quality customer service to citizens, while paying cash for infrastructure needs and ensuring that the City’s collected revenues exceed expenditures. We are home to approx. 115,000 residents. The City of Tyler has no tax supported debt and an AAA bond rating, a water supply that will last the next 75 years and we have landfill space to last until 2110. Our Solid Waste rates are among the lowest in the State. Our competitive fire protection rating is held by only 4% in the State and our Police Department in one of the first accredited in Texas. We are one of only a few cities nationwide to launch a Lean Sigma program to become more efficient. Our mission is to be a results-oriented service organization with a focus on responsiveness, efficiency, sound financial management and quality service to our citizens. Our vision is to be the standard of performance excellence in local government.
