Mission
To promote and assist families in achieving social wellness and financial independence.
The Family Self–Sufficiency is a 5-year academic, employment and savings incentive program designed to help low income families gain education and career skills to move toward self-sufficiency. Through case management, the program provides life-skills guidance and linkages to network service providers.
Participants are expected to make continual progress towards their educational and career goals while meeting the additional program requirements of the FSS program in order to graduate successfully in 5 years.
While FSS program does not provide funding for employment or supportive services other than case management, it can facilitate collaborative relations with local agencies to access additional resources for its participants.
Upon fulfillment of the five-year program, through the FSS Contract of Participation, and completion of the goals listed on the Individual Training and Services Plan, families receive the funds in the escrow account for purchasing a house through the Housing Choice Voucher Homeownership program or for any other purpose that allows them to become self-sufficient.
If you are a current voucher holder and you are interested in joining the Family Self Sufficiency Program, download the FSS application. Once you have completed the application you can email, fax or drop off the application at our local office.
