The Tyler Trees Committee and the City of Tyler Urban Forestry Division will host a tree-planting event to celebrate Arbor Day on Saturday, Nov. 23 at Noble E. Young Park, 3081 Towne Park Dr., from 10 a.m. to noon. Registration is open at City of Tyler Arbor Day Registration.
"Arbor Day is a day to recognize the significance of trees in our community," said Luke Alfaro, Urban Forester/Arborist. "We have experienced high rates of tree loss in Tyler due to storms, droughts, and freezes and it is important to help replant trees in Tyler."
The Tyler Arbor Day celebration was previously held in January but has moved to November to sync up with Texas Arbor Day, which is the best time to plant trees in Texas. Volunteers will plant one or more trees and receive a free tree, shirt, lunch, and the chance to win door prizes.
Part of holding Tree City USA status is having an annual Arbor Day observance and proclamation. The City has held Tree City USA status for 15 years.
