Mission Statement

“To protect lives and property from fire and other hazards through incident mitigation, education, and prevention.”

Motto

 “Our family serving your family”

Emergency Response

Life Safety - As stated in our mission, the TFD is ultimately in existence to provide lifesaving actions in real emergencies. Your life and the lives of your loved ones are our #1 priority!  It's a mission the Department performs through professional service.

Property Conservation - While Life Safety is always first and foremost, protecting property is also part of the Department's mission. To the extent possible, firefighters make every effort to protect your structure and belongings. They value what you value!

Incident Mitigation - When the big, red fire truck rolls up, the situation is expected to get better. It is our goal for that to happen from emergency medical incidents and vehicle collisions to multi-alarm fires.  Firefighters are trained to bring incidents to a close in a thorough and safe manner.

Fire Prevention

Fire Code Enforcement - The best fire is one that never occurs!  Or, if it does occur, one that minimally impacts life and property. That's what enforcing the fire code all is about, and it's our Fire Prevention and Risk Reduction Division’s main job.

Public Education - Another facet of preventing avoidable fires, injuries, and even deaths, is to educate citizens and business/property owners on how to react in the event of a fire. The TFD provides outstanding public education to that end.

Emergency Management

The City of Tyler Office of Emergency Management (OEM) – provides emergency mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery services to the residents of Tyler.

There are 10 Fire Stations throughout our City and Tyler Pounds Regional Airport. Please feel free to stop by your neighborhood fire stations whenever you have a need. Our firefighters will be happy to treat your injury, give you a station tour, provide fire and emergency medical safety tips or they will gladly stop by your residence or your place of business to check on your smoke detectors!
