Hillside Art Wall

History Tyler - Hillside Park Art Wall

In 2019, Keep Tyler Beautiful started the Hillside Art Wall project in conjunction with the renovation of Hillside Park. The project consists of a 108" wall made of 20 panels. Every two years artists of all ages from the Tyler area and surrounding counties are invited to submit designs to repaint the wall.

The panels were repainted in 2021 and most recently May 2023. The Art Wall can be found at 1111 E. Erwin St.

Completed Projects

"Keep Tyler Beautiful" Mural

The Keep Tyler Beautiful Art Mural features plants, and wildlife native to East Texas, and is located along South Loop 323, between Fry Avenue and New Copeland Road in Tyler.

The previous mural featured colorful roses was painted in 2011 by students from multiple Tyler high schools. The art mural is a creative outlet for artists, and is intended to display local art by Tyler artists and promote the Keep Tyler Beautiful program.

The mid-portion of the new mural was hand drawn by seven local artists who worked with Keep Tyler Beautiful in 2018 at the Hillside Park Art Wall. Dace Kidd, Allison Matlock, Dawn Faye Melton, Dphill, Gracyn Campbell, Ingrid Horner, LeeAnna Jones and Luis Fuentes. Gracyn Campbell finished the end sections of the mural by painting additional native plants and flowers.Wide Shot

"Welcome to the Rose Capital" Mural

Designed and painted by local artist, Dace Kidd.

This mural is located at 1718 W. Houston St. in front of the Parks Admin and Keep Tyler Beautiful offices and is directly across the street from the South East corner of the Tyler Municipal Rose Garden.

The mural features the words "Welcome to the Rose Capital" in reference to the Rose Garden being the largest in the world and the City of Tyler's moniker of being the "Rose Capital of Texas".  Also featured are several large roses in a variety of colors including red, pink, magenta and yellow.

Restroom Murals

Keep Tyler Beautiful has been working with local artists since 2020 to turn park restrooms into public art pieces. It is our goal to have murals on every park restroom to add to the unique character of each park while also discouraging graffiti. Check out our current restroom murals below.
